ABOUT LESLIE

Approaching her 30th anniversary at the Bar, Leslie decided to transition from practicing law into the field of mediation using the experience she gained during her tenure as a litigator. She practiced for many years, most recently in the area of insurance defence, but has also represented Plaintiffs which allows her to offer a well-rounded perspective to the field of mediation. She has knowledge and experience in many areas, including but not limited to:

- Bodily Injury, including catastrophic loss, SEF 44 claims, and fatal accidents

- Professional Liability, including errors and omissions

- Medical Malpractice

- Occupiers' Liability

- Coverage

- Product Liability

- Fire and Property Loss, including subrogated matters

- Specialty Claims, including agriculture and food safety

In addition to practicing law, Leslie has been a sessional instructor at the University of Alberta Faculty of Law, teaching Insurance Law since 2017. As such, she has an in depth understanding and up-to-date knowledge of the legal principles in this area.

She has extensive mediation experience as both a participant and an advocate. This experience, combined with the completion of the mediation course offered by the Straus Institute at Pepperdine University, allows Leslie to offer a practical and effective approach to the mediation process that will assist in the successful resolution of disputes. Balancing the parties interests through thoughtful listening, assessment and application of the law are an integral part of Leslie's process as a mediator. She will offer you and your clients an atmosphere conductive to open communication and meaningful resolution.

WHY CHOOSE MEDIATION?

There are many reasons why mediation has come to be such an integral part of litigation in Alberta and around the globe. Leaving aside the fact that some form of alternative dispute resolution is mandatory in Alberta and other jurisdictions, mediation as a means to resolution allows the parties more control over the outcome, and greater satisfaction at the conclusion.

As we know, lawsuits can be expensive ventures, particularly when experts and trials are involved. Trial dates are often years down the road, once scheduled. Once at the courthouse, matters are in the hands of judges, and out of the hands of the most important parties--the clients themselves.

Leslie's primary goals as your mediator are three-fold: to help you resolve your lawsuit quickly, to resolve more economically, and, most importantly, to resolve with your involvement, giving you and your client input in the process. As your mediator she will actively listen to all parties, provide guidance, and assist in finding collaborative ways to reach a resolution that is acceptable to all.
